On the Edge of Glory
A meditation on the life of St. Columba
SATB/soprano and tenor solo (10'50")
This short cantata-like work was commissioned by St. Columbas Church
in Chester as part of their celebrations to mark two very significant
events in the history of the Christian Church the 1400th anniversary
of the death of St. Columba, and the arrival in Britain of St. Augustine
in 597AD. Patrick Larley fuses together the Gregorian plainchant style
with the folk-like idiom of the Celtic tradition to reflect these two
