On the Edge of Glory
A meditation on the life of St. Columba
SATB/soprano and tenor solo (10'50")

This short cantata-like work was commissioned by St. Columba’s Church in Chester as part of their celebrations to mark two very significant events in the history of the Christian Church – the 1400th anniversary of the death of St. Columba, and the arrival in Britain of St. Augustine in 597AD. Patrick Larley fuses together the Gregorian plainchant style with the folk-like idiom of the Celtic tradition to reflect these two different strands of Christianity.
